Ibrox View: Ludicrous Rangers comment from ex-Bhoy surely shows he has short memory
RANGERS OPINION
If we’re being completely honest, Rangers still have some way to go if we are to close the gap on Celtic at the top of the table.
That 13 point lead that the Hoops have feels like a chasm at the moment, and even if the season does resume in the near future, our chances of usurping Neil Lennon’s side this term look slim to minimal.
But pinpointing why Celtic have stolen a march on us this term isn’t the easiest thing to do.
That being said, former Parkhead Glenn Loovens defender thinks he has found the answer.
Speaking to the Herald, he said: “It is an advantage to Celtic in those games having a manager like Neil who has played in them himself and been in the dugout on many occasion as well.
“But a guy like Scott Brown will help you a lot as well. He has played in a lot of them as well.
“I am sure he lets all the players know what the game means to everyone.”
There is a serious flaw in Loovens’ theory though.
He speaks about Lennon and Brown giving Celtic the advantage in Old Firms, but both were present when we walked all over them at Parkhead in December.
Even when they did edge us out in the League Cup final earlier in the season, Steven Gerrard’s side managed seven shots on target to the Hoops’ one, as per the BBC.
It’s hard to see how Lennon and Brown can be so advantageous when we arguably outperformed Celtic whenever we have played them recently.
Undoubtedly, there are reasons why we are lagging behind in the title race, but suggesting that Lennon and Brown are the difference makers between the two sides shows that he has a very short memory.
