Ibrox View: Rangers must revisit deal for 6’4″ giant this summer after latest report
RANGERS OPINION
In truth, there are probably much more pressing matters on Steven Gerrard’s mind right now than who he wants to recruit for his Rangers side in the summer.
With the Gers currently wading through a particularly swampy run of poor form, the priority for the boss must be to gather the players he already has at his disposal and rally them in a way that means this season doesn’t come crashing down with an embarrassing bump.
That being said, this current slump will have no doubt highlighted to the manager just how much work he still has to do in the summer if he is to ever get this squad up to a title-winning standard.
And while it might not be a position of great priority to the Bears right now, the latest report on Leeds United goalkeeper Kamil Miazek should certainly pique interest in the blue half of Glasgow.
According to Football Insider, the 23-year-old is nearing an exit at Elland Road, and could be shipped out in the coming months, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.
The Gers reportedly made an effort to land the Pole in January, as per Goal.com, and it is understood that they could look to revisit a potential swoop at the end of the campaign.
Miazek has slipped down the pecking order in Yorkshire, and is now deemed fourth choice by Marcelo Bielsa.
But should the Gers be looking to snap him up?
Certainly, you would argue that another goalkeeper wouldn’t come in wrong.
Allan McGregor is still a superlative talent, but at 38 he is no spring chicken, and even superheroes have to hang up their capes at some point.
Similarly, Wes Foderingham has made it abundantly clear that his future could lie elsewhere.
As such, reinforcements wouldn’t go amiss, and even though he may have fallen out of favour with Leeds, Gerrard could do a lot worse than Miazek.
At 23, he still has his whole career ahead of him, and at 6’4″ he is a naturally imposing figure too.
Is he the finished article? No, of course not.
But during an interview with Football Insider, former Elland Road striker Noel Whelan admitted that the young stopper has plenty of potential, and is unfortunate to find himself in a squad with such a large array of goalkeeping talent.
Could capitalise on that promise and that situation for a tiny amount of money? Without a doubt, yes.
The Gers must revisit this one in the summer.
