Steven Thompson issues score prediction for Rangers v Hibernian
Steven Thompson has predicted that Rangers will comfortably beat Hibernian when the two sides meet on Wednesday.
The Gers host Jack Ross’ men at Ibrox looking to stay within touching distance of bitter rivals Celtic, who are currently seven points clear of Steven Gerrard’s men, but have played one game more than the Bears.
And Thompson believes that they will be able to do that, forecasting a 3-1 win for the Light Blues, as per BBC Sport.
The last time the two teams met was just before Christmas, with Joe Aribo and Ryan Kent putting the Gers into a commanding early lead that was capped off by a Jermain Defoe strike before Hibs were reduced to 10 men for a horrendous challenge from Ryan Porteous.
The match was also marred by crowd trouble, with Hibernian fans throwing a glass bottle at left-back Borna Barisic after he was left on the ground following Porteous’ lunge.
Will Rangers win again on Wednesday?
It is absolutely vital that they do.
January was a difficult month for Steven Gerrard’s boys, and after dropping points against Hearts and Aberdeen, they have gone from having the advantage in the title race to hanging on for dear life.
If they were to slip up again, and if Celtic take all three points against Motherwell, a ten-point gap would look awfully daunting, even with a game in hand.
All we really have to go on is the evidence of the last meeting between the two sides, and in that respect, Rangers should be feeling pretty optimistic.
Not only did they bag three without reply, but they also had 10 shots on target to Hibs’ one, as per Sky Sports.
A repeat of those numbers, and it will be easy street for the Gers.
