Report: Rangers regular receives monster new contract

Rangers left back Borna Barisic’s contract extension with the Ibrox club puts him amongst its highest earners, according to Football Insider.

The outlet claims that the 27-year-old’s new deal, announced last week, is worth in excess of £4million.

He’s now tied to Steven Gerrard’s side until the summer of 2024, and will be earning big money throughout that period.

The club brass were said to be more than willing to offer the Croatian international fresh terms as a reward for the improvements he’s made in his second season in Scotland.

He will now be paid more than £20,000-per-week, a sum which puts him alongside the likes of Ryan Jack and Allan McGregor, just below the club’s very top earners.

Star strike duo Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe are currently on the most money, thought to be more than £30,000-per-week.

Does Barisic deserve this sort of cash?

He certainly does. The left back now looks assured and comfortable amid the helter-skelter of Scottish football, something that wasn’t always the case last season.

He’s already played more games this season than he did in his debut campaign at Ibrox, and has racked up an incredible 14 assists to date.

The Croatian has rounded into arguably the finest left back in the country, and somebody the club needed to keep hold of.

Certainly Morelos and Defoe were obviously going to be on more money than him, but a spot in the pay tier just below them is well deserved for Barisic.

This was another important step in Gerrard keeping hold of all of his best talent – and keeping them happy as well.

In other Rangers news, a BBC Sport pundit has claimed that the club’s supporters have it in for him.
