McNamara claims Gerrard has held crunch talks with Rangers star man

Jackie McNamara has claimed that Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has probably held crunch transfer talks with star striker Alfredo Morelos.

The Colombian international has attracted interest from the likes of Spanish outfit Sevilla and Premier League heavy-hitters Tottenham Hotspur this month.

That’s no surprise given the fact he’s plundered 28 goals in 35 games this season, with his overall record for Gers standing at 76 goals in 126 games.

McNamara feels he could be on his way come the summer, though: “I don’t think you’ll see anyone leaving Rangers or Celtic this window, that’s needed,” he told Football Insider.

“Regardless of the money, they’ll wait till the summer. If they sell anyone now, the place, the fans would go crazy. He’s under contract, they’ll maybe say: ‘Wait until the summer if that’s the case.’

“I think they’ll [Gerrard and Morelos] have had this chat already, that he’s not going anywhere, he signed a contract maybe to stop that.”

Will Morelos be off in the summer?

We’ve been saying it every window for a couple of years now, it feels like: ‘oh, this will be the one where he goes’. Yet, Morelos is still in Glasgow.

It certainly doesn’t look like he’ll go this month. As McNamara says, if he were sold in the midst of a Premiership title push there’d be absolute uproar at Ibrox.

Gerrard and co., though, will know that the 23-year-old’s not going to remain in Scotland for much longer.

He’ll get an opportunity to join a big Premier League or European club at some stage, that’s simply inevitable. However, it would be a monumental surprise if he sealed an Ibrox exit this month.
