Alan Hutton has hailed Borna Barisic for his performance in Rangers’ 1-0 win over St. Mirren on Wednesday night.

The Gers were largely frustrated by their visitors on a fairly dull night at Ibrox, mustering just five shots on target despite having 63% possession – with two of those coming in injury time, as per the BBC.

But Hutton did see one bright spark from his former side, and it came in the form of the Croatian full-back, who provided the assist for Jermain Defoe’s winner.

Speaking on Sky Sports News‘ coverage of the game (January 22nd, 20.30), the pundit said: “Barisic, for me he’s been their best player.

“His delivery – he obviously assisted for the goal.”

Later, Hutton added: “Barisic has probably been man of the match.

“His delivery into the box has been superb”.

How good was Barisic on Wednesday night?

This was another impressive display from the full-back, who really stepped up to the plate at Ibrox.

His assist against the Saints was his 14th of the season, and in the absence of James Tavernier he put in a superb shift down the left hand side to give the Gers some semblance of attacking threat.

For much of this match Steven Gerrard’s men were left frustrated by a side who were happy to sit deep and absorb pressure.

This isn’t the first time that Hutton has heaped praise on the defender this term, also drooling all over him in an interview with Football Insider, but after another top notch outing, it’s not hard to see why the ex-Ibrox man is so infatuated.
