Key Rangers ace speaks out on Ibrox future amid speculation of PL interest
Rangers captain James Tavernier has claimed that he is happy at Ibrox, despite reported interest from Newcastle United.
A piece from the Scottish Sun suggested that the Magpies are keen to take the 28-year-old back to Tyneside, where he started his career.
But the skipper has reasserted his desire to stay with the Gers for the foreseeable future.
As quoted by the Scottish Sun, he said: “My contract is here, I’m fully committed to the team.
“We’re halfway through the season in a great position and my family are settled.
“In football it can sometimes be out of your hands, but I’m delighted to be here and want to continue.”
How good is this for Rangers?
In a word, very.
If we’re being completely honest, that rumour from the Sun always seemed like a bit of a long shot.
Even if the Toon Army are keen on Tav, that doesn’t mean that he reciprocates the interest, or for that matter, that the Gers have any inclination to sell.
Let’s not forget that he is under contract until 2022.
To hear it from the horse’s mouth, however, is a real relief.
Tavernier is so integral to the identity of this Rangers side under Steven Gerrard – not to mention his contributions on the field – and losing him would leave a massive void that would be difficult to fill.
In other news, Harry Redknapp claims Rangers ace would set PL ‘alight’ if he moved south.
