Athletic journo runs rule over rumoured PL swoop for Rangers favourite
Rangers have a goose that lays golden eggs in Alfredo Morelos.
The Colombian simply cannot stop scoring, and his tally of 28 strikes for the season so far is a seriously impressive feat.
It’s a cliche, but goals goals win games, and with that in mind, it’s understandable that he may be attracting attention from elsewhere over the coming weeks.
One team that have been repeatedly linked with a swoop for El Bufalo in the past are Aston Villa, as per the Daily Record, and that rumour doesn’t look like going away any time soon given their latest injury blow.
Brazilian hitman Wesley Moraes has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee ligament injury, as per the BBC, and you would assume that a new striker will have to be high on the Villans’ priority list this month if they are to retain their Premier League status come May.
But The Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell is unsure that they’ll make a move.
Writing in a Q&A for the outlet, he said: “I understand Villa believe Morelos is too expensive for them.
“Can understand why people might think it makes sense though, but I think he can aim higher than Villa when he does leave.”
Let’s hope he’s right about this one.
Realistically, the Gers aren’t going to take anything less than a king’s ransom for their star man, and you have to wonder whether Villa have that in their locker.
After all, they went big last summer, bringing in a glut of players for a grand total of £133.74 million, including a club record £22.5 million swoop for Wesley, as per Transfermarkt.
Rangers best hope is that their activity at the beginning of the season has skinted them, effectively ruling them out of the race for Morelos.
