‘Embarrassing’ – Chris Sutton blasts senior Rangers man after Old Firm win

This could be a day that proves to be absolutely pivotal in Rangers’ bid to win a first league title since 2011.

To go to Parkhead and win in the manner that Steven Gerrard’s men did, battling from first whistle to last, giving no quarter, and surviving some significant frights along the way, was nothing sort of magnificent.

From Ryan Kent’s cultured finish, to Allan McGregor’s penalty save, to Nikola Katic’s thumping winner, this was a game packed full of memorable moments, and one well worth celebrating given its potential significance in the title race.

But Chris Sutton didn’t seem to think so.

After the final whistle, the boss was full of passion as pumped his fists, screamed down the lens of the watching cameras, and embraced his players in jubilation.

But Sutton was not overly impressed with his behaviour.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, he said: “Well done to Rangers… deserved it.

“And within two points of the champions…

“Steven Gerrard celebrating like he’d won the league a touch embarrassing…”

Why does Sutton need to be like this?

As a pundit he is paid to be impartial and fair in his analysis, so to throw his toys out of the pram like this when his beloved Celtic get beat really doesn’t well on him.

Gerrard had every right to celebrate today.

This was a massive performance from his side, a massive achievement on the whole, and could prove to be a massive three points in the context of the season.

The reality is that the title race has been blown wide open today, and it’s pretty clear that Sutton isn’t overly happy about it.

Let the Gers bask in their glory in peace.
