Rangers have been on the offensive in recent days when it’s come to tying down their best young talent to new deals.
Yesterday saw goalkeeper Kieran Wright out pen to paper, while Sunday afternoon saw defender James Maxwell also commit his future to the Bears.
But for many, it’s the extension of Nathan Patterson’s contract that has them most excited.
The youngster has signed a deal that will keep him at Ibrox until at least 2022, and according to ex-Gers ace Alan Hutton, that’s a real coup.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “They speak very highly of him, all through the coaching staff at Ibrox. He’s definitely one for the future.
“It’s great to tie him down, young prospect, very highly rated, a lot of teams were interested in him so for Rangers to tie him down on a longer contract is brilliant for the club and for him.
“It’s definitely a place he can thrive, come through to push Tavernier next season because he’ll be young and hungry.”
Patterson, despite being only 18, has been at the club for a decade, and you get the impression that the lad probably bleeds Light Blue.
Those are exactly the sorts of player you want to be bringing through the ranks, and tying him down to a new deal at such a crucial juncture in his career should hopefully ensure that he doesn’t leave the club for a pittance before he is really given his chance to shine.
Hopefully, that won’t take too long to happen, because Patterson looks as if he could be the real deal.
