Gerrard confirms first team duo on brink of Rangers return, back in full training

The last thing you want going into a hectic festive fixture schedule is a barrage of injuries to contend with.

Rangers come up against Kilmarnock on Thursday evening before squaring up to bitter rivals Celtic just three days later.

With that kind of congestion, having as many of your first team options available as possible can only be a good thing.

So it’s definitely pleasing to hear the latest injury update from the manager.

Speaking in a press conference on Monday, Steven Gerrard confirmed that Steven Davis is back in full training, and Jordan Jones is nearing a return too.

Whether either features in Thursday’s clash with Killie remains to be seen, but at the very least it shows that things are moving in the right direction.

Davis in particular will be a real boost to the side, with the veteran Northern Irishman having already played 25 times this season prior to bruising his foot earlier this month.

Looking beyond Thursday though, the big game on everybody’s mind will no doubt be that Old Firm clash against the Hoops.

A win would hand the advantage to the Gers in the title race, while a los would leave us with a bit of a mountain to climb in the new year.

Having Davis, and his vast experience, around for that game could ultimately be a difference maker in a clash that promises to be decided on the finest of margins.
