It was a magnificent night at Ibrox for Rangers and a huge, huge win for Steven Gerrard and his Europa heroes, although the 2-0 scoreline gives an air of comfort over the tie that wasn’t in evidence in the first half.

The truth is that there was almost nothing between the sides in the first 45 minutes and if we’re honest the visitors probably shaded it.

However, it was that man again, Alfredo Morelos, who was the difference, finishing with a clinical strike to break the deadlock in the 69th minute.

The raucous Ibrox crowd hadn’t finished celebrating that when Steven Davis popped up with the second to secure the three points.

A 2-0 win against a team like Porto is proof of the strides Rangers have taken under Steven Gerrard, who hasn’t lost at home in Europe yet.

The result means that a win against Feyenoord in the next game will be enough to see Rangers through to the knockouts.

Davis’ first goal of the season was absolutely vital but it was his overall performance that delighted the Rangers fans. He was peerless in the middle and plenty of fans went onto Twitter to hail him as their hero.
