Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos scored his 19th and 20th goals of the season at Hampden on Sunday to help secure his side a place in the Scottish League Cup final.
He just won’t stop scoring, which is great news for Rangers but it does come with its own problems.
Morelos has been the subject of transfer speculation every time the window opens and this January will be no different.
However, after the League Cup semi-final on Sunday, Steven Gerrard made it very clear that he wouldn’t be going anywhere in January.
Talking on BT Sport’s live coverage of the game (BT Sport, Sunday, 3pm), Gerrard was asked whether he was confident Morelos would still be a Rangers player once the January window slammed shut.
“I’m not confident… I’m sure,” Gerrard replied. “I’m 100 percent sure he’s not going anywhere.”
That’s about as definitive as it gets and Gerrard will know that losing Morelos in January would slice Rangers’ season apart.
It’s also highly unlikely that Gerrard would have Morelos sold from underneath him. He’s said before that every Rangers player has a price but that will be for the summer. And if Morelos carries on scoring at the rate he is, we may well have to wave goodbye to him then.
If Morelos helps land the league and cup double (or treble), we’re sure he’ll go for a hefty price and with the blessing of all the Rangers fans.
