US statistician Nate Silver has predicted that Rangers will beat Celtic to the Premiership title this season.
He has crunched the numbers for the season and Steven Gerrard’s men came out on top by three points and a superior goal difference of +72 to +63.
Silver, who became famous for his election predictions (although he didn’t fare so well with Donald Trump in 2016) now predicts many different events, including sports, at his website FiveThirtyEight.
He gives Rangers a 58% chance of winning the Premiership and qualifying for the Champions League, with Celtic sitting on just a 41% probability.
No other side has even a 1% shot of causing a major upset, with Kilmarnock a massive 35 points behind Rangers in third and Aberdeen a further three points back from them.
Silver predicts that St Mirren will finish bottom.
We’ll take that. Rangers are currently top, Nate Silver’s on board the Gerrard revolution and he’s predicting a title win with a glut of goals. 14 in the last three games shows that Silver is on track.
The Premiership model will be regularly updated at the FiveThirtyEight website where we hope to see Gerrard’s men pull even further ahead in the race for the Champions League.
