'Absolutely outstanding' – These Rangers fans react to one player v Hamilton

Sunday was a good day for Rangers.

First, rivals Celtic went down 2-0 to Livingston after Ryan Christie was sent off in the 26th minute of the game.

That gave Steven Gerrard’s men the opportunity to go top of the league and they took it emphatically, smashing Hamilton 5-0.

Jermain Defoe was the preferred striker on the day, with Alfredo Morelos on the bench, and that choice was vindicated when the veteran forward bagged himself a hat-trick.

He scored the first in just the seventh minute of the game before Connor Goldson and Borna Barisic made it three.

Defoe took over then and scored his second in the 63rd minute before wrapping up a comprehensive win in the 71st minute.

Morelos came on in the 74th minute for Sheyi Ojo but he couldn’t find the net and Defoe is now the top scorer in the Premiership with nine goals, ahead of Celtic’s Christie with six and Morelos with five.

Defoe, on loan from Bournemouth, is 37 years old but he proved to the Ibrox crowd that he’s still got too much for most Premiership defences and the Rangers fans paid tribute to him on Twitter after the game.
