Gerrard hints at Cameo role for Rangers in friendly this weekend
There might be some real fantasy football for Rangers fans this weekend after manager Steven Gerrard hinted that he might play a cameo role in Light Blue during the Legends game.
Talking to Rangers TV after his side’s 5-0 thumping of Hamilton Gerrard said, “I always look forward to a game of football.
“I’m going to play for Liverpool and who knows, there might be a little cameo in a blue shirt as well we’ll have to see.”
It’s another big reason to watch the game live, with Rangers set to be managed by Alex McLeish and the Reds to be managed by Ian Rush.
Richard Gough is set to captain the Light Blues, with Alan Hutton and Charlie Adam in the squad. Gerrard is also listed in the Rangers squad on the official website.
Liverpool have Jamie Carragher, Jason McAteer, Jose Enrique, Glen Johnson, Emile Heskey and Dirk Kuyt down to play, along with Gerrard who could well score for both sides.
Gerrard was a two-club man, with a staggering 710 appearances for Liverpool before a brief 39-game spell with LA Galaxy in the twilight of his playing career. His last game was in the MLS Cup play-offs in November 2016, when LA Galaxy lost to Colorado on penalties in the quarter-finals.
A brief cameo in the Light Blue shirt will be a dream come true for many Rangers fans. The game kicks off at 3pm on Saturday, October 12th.
