Nicolas Raskin has been accused of doing something "disrespectful" in Rangers' win over St Mirren last weekend.

The Belgium international remains a Rangers player, despite it looking certain he would leave this summer.

There remains two weeks for that to change, but for now the midfielder is available for selection for Derek McInnes.

Raskin has featured four times for the Gers this campaign after his extended break after playing regularly for his country at the World Cup.

That includes a start in the 5-1 Premier Sports Cup win over St Mirren on Sunday afternoon.

But Raskin may have been guilty of committing a faux pas during the second half of the clash at Ibrox.

Raskin starting against St Mirren raised eyebrows given the ongoing speculation over his future.

Not only did the 25-year-old start, he was also handed the captain's armband by McInnes.

Lawrence Shankland was installed as McInnes' skipper prior to the season starting, but he was named among the substitutes at the weekend.

However, when Shankland came on in the second period, Raskin kept hold of the armband.

This is something described as "disrespectful" by host Paul Cooney on Go Radio.

Barry Ferguson agreed Raskin should have handed the armband to Shankland, albeit he did not go as strong as Cooney with his comments.

"I wouldn’t go as far as to say that it’s disrespectful, but it is the norm to pass it on if the captain is on the bench and he makes an appearance on the field," he said.

Some may feel this is making a mountain out of a molehill, but this is a problem that could have been avoided.

It is a small faux pas, granted, but one that looks awkward and is now being commented on in the media.

But the wider issue, beyond Raskin not passing on the captain's armband to Shankland, regards the Belgian's future itself.

What is latest on Raskin's Rangers future?

The fact Raskin has even played four times for Rangers this season is surprising in itself.

Despite being linked with a number of teams, and seeing bids rejected from some, Raskin is still at Ibrox.

It may well be that a team steps forward with that type of money late in the window, but for now it just does not seem likely.

Rangers may well have been better off taking what they could for Raskin earlier in the window.

Now, there is every chance they could be stuck with a player who would prefer to be elsewhere.

Furthermore, that cash would have come in very handy right now as the Gers scramble to add to their attacking options.

If nothing else, Raskin will likely be reminded of the etiquette if he sports the armband again before leaving.
