Why Rangers have paid 'extra millions' for special Couhaib Driouech transfer

Rangers are set to sign PSV Eindhoven winger Couhaib Driouech soon and are willing to spend extra millions to do so.

The Gers have agreed to pay around £7million for the Morocco attacker this transfer window.

There has been plenty of bad news for Derek McInnes at the Light Blues in terms of Youssef Chermiti and Tuur Rommens' injuries, but the 24-year-old forward's arrival should help to make a difference in G51.

Driouech is already on his way to Ibrox, and the Glaswegian outfit's hierarchy may have had to go above and beyond to get a deal over the line with PSV.

Celta Vigo and Burnley have also been linked with the left-winger in recent weeks, but it looks like the Bears are about to win the race.

And it seems like the Govan side have had to pay a premium to get a deal over the line for the forward.

Why Rangers will be excited about Couhaib Driouech transfer

Driouech is already in Glasgow for his Rangers medical and the official announcement about his transfer feels like a matter of time.

The attacker hasn't been able to make a consistent impact in Eindhoven, but has shown glimpses of his talent, especially in the Champions League.

With the Morocco national establishing himself as a big-game player for PSV in Europe, the Gers may have had to pay "extra millions" to sign him.

What McInnes could now be getting at Ibrox is a "special player" who will surely be looking to make a name for himself in Govan.

Speaking on VoetbalPrimeur's transfer podcast DoneDeal on 11 August, a journalist said: "Fantastic for him, of course.

"I think he's leaving PSV through the front door. Perhaps not in the sporting sense he had hoped. At PSV, they won't forget his goals in the Champions League. Two against Liverpool and a goal against Napoli.

"That alone makes him a special player. I think that brought in extra millions for PSV. It just wasn't quite good enough for PSV. He has better competitors."

How Couhaib Driouech transfer could affect squad at Ibrox

While Driouech's arrival will excite some at Rangers, there will be players who could potentially be left with questions around their futures.

The Gers have opened up spaces in the wings after Oliver Antman and Nedim Bajrami's departures.

Daisuke Yokota became the ninth addition of the summer at Ibrox, and Driouech is about to be the 10th.

Findlay Curtis and Djeidi Gassama will now arguably be wondering whether they have a future playing on the left-wing for the Light Blues.

Considering the amount of money spent on the Moroccan ace, McInnes will undoubtedly have to play him in his best position, leaving the other options out wide to compete for places in other positions.

Curtis played right-back on loan at Kilmarnock last season, and that may be something the Scottish manager should experiment with.
