Why Mohamed Salah update will leave Rangers sweating over Vaclav Cerny transfer
Rangers want to bring Vaclav Cerny back to Ibrox but could now face more obstacles.
The winger's future at Besiktas has been up in the air over the last few weeks as the Turkish side eyed a move for Mohamed Salah.
Ibrox News has covered how Salah and Cerny's futures were directly linked together.
Now, a new update on Besiktas' deal for the Egyptian has emerged with official quotes from a club employee.
There could now be some hurdles facing Derek McInnes' side in their move to sign the forward.
Besiktas football director Onder Ozen has issued a statement and one that Rangers will certainly be interested in.
Why Rangers deal for Vaclav Cerny could now be in jeopardy
As previously stated, the arrival of Salah at Besiktas would have opened the door for Cerny to depart.
However, talks with the former Liverpool star have not headed in the direction that Besiktas or Rangers would have wanted.
As relayed by Turkish media outlet 24 SAAT, football director Ozen confirmed in a press conference that Besiktas have stepped away from the table for now.
He stated: "The president, by not making a populist decision, 'temporarily walked away' from the table.
"Keeping the club focused is more important than having a valuable athlete. The Salah case is currently on hold."
For Rangers, it is not an ideal outcome as they likely would have wanted Cerny through the door as close to the start of the season as possible.
However, they may now need to wait for the Turkish club to either locate an alternative solution or re-engage in talks for the Egyptian.
How Cerny could join elite list of Rangers stars
Cerny would not be the first to leave Rangers and then eventually return to Glasgow.
But being able to replicate success on the second go-around may not be an easy task to achieve.
However, the Czech forward has quite a few examples to show that impact could very well be had in G51.
Barry Ferguson left Rangers in 2003 having won three Scottish Premiership titles in his first stint.
He later returned, adding a further two titles to his honours and would go on to become captain of the Bears.
A more recent example would be Allan McGregor. In his first spell, he spent 11 years contracted at Ibrox, being part of three Scottish league-winning sides.
He returned in 2018 to 2023, where he established himself as number one once again and was a key member of Steven Gerrard's 2020-2021 title winning side.
Although he did not win any silverware for Rangers, Cerny did become a cult hero for the Bears, and hopes are that he would seamlessly slot back in like he never left just as those two men also managed to do.
