Rangers target Michael Parker hasn't played much senior football, but he's already flashed his star potential.

The Gers are said to be keen on bringing Parker back to these shores, after he left English Championship side West Brom for Sweden in February.

Orgryte would be his destination, with the Gothenburg-based club said to have parted with a nominal fee to secure his services.

The 21-year-old central defender stands at 6'4" tall, and began his career playing youth football with Greenwich-based side Cray Valley Paper Mills.

Parker left The Hawthorns without having ever played a single minute of competitive senior football for the Baggies, but did turn out over 40 times for their Under-21s.

However, the youngster has been turning heads ever since he stepped foot in Sweden, and now Rangers could be ready to invest in his evident potential.

Michael Parker would surprisingly bolster Rangers' attack

Fotbollskanalen claim that Orgryte are looking for around £1.7million to part with Parker this summer, which would mark a significant profit for the Swedes.

Rangers along with Celtic are understood to be sweet on the defender, with interest said to be mounting from across European football as well.

Parker has only made 13 competitive appearances for Orgryte since his switch earlier this year, but that's all he's needed to catch the eye of many.

With an impressive athletic profile to boot along with some intriguing untapped potential, Rangers could well see a future star in the Englishman who could be had for a relatively small fee this summer.

If there's one side of Parker's game that he particularly excels in, however, it's going forward.

As per FotMob, Parker ranks in the top 3.3 percentile of all Allsvenskan (Swedish first division) centre-backs for big chances created per 90 in 2026 with 0.25, with no player in his position creating more than his two so far this year.

He's also created 0.50 chances and delivered 0.63 successful crosses per game, as well as enjoying a 100 per cent dribble success rate.

Parker has a long way to go defensively

For these reasons then, Parker's signing would be a very exciting one from an attacking potential perspective.

But, as a centre-back, Parker's first and foremost job is to defend, but the youngster hasn't quite posted the sort of numbers that would suggest he's ready to be a reliable player in that respect.

Indeed, his 51 per cent duels won rate ranks him in the bottom 16.4 percentile of Allsvenskan centre-backs so far in 2026.

On top of that, his eight aerial duels won, five tackles made and five times dribbled past place him in the bottom 27.9, 32.8 and 11.5 per cent of his positional rivals, respectively.

Despite only playing 715 minutes of league football in 2026, Orgryte have also conceded an average of 2.64 goals per game when Parker is on the pitch, with his team currently sitting bottom of the Swedish top flight.

Overall then, Parker would be a major gamble for Rangers to make, as whilst some of his numbers in attack are league-leading, others in defence are the opposite.

He would certainly have the feel of a project signing at Ibrox, but with Ben Godfrey now through the door, perhaps Gers chiefs feel confident that they can afford to roll the dice on Parker.
