Rangers learn of Michael Parker fee - now even more reason to crush Celtic
Rangers are among the teams interested in bringing Michael Parker back to British football.
Parker only left West Brom for Swedish side Orgryte Is in February after impressing on trial.
Orgryte are believed to have paid a tiny sum for the 21-year-old, with West Brom including a sell-on fee as part of the agreement.
He has also spent time on loan with Hereford United in England, making 20 senior appearances in his career to date.
Parker is clearly doing something to catch the eye in Scandinavia as Rangers and Celtic are among the clubs interested in him.
And a new update from abroad on Friday suggests Rangers would be wise to make their move.
Euro club chief confirms interest in Michael Parker as Old Firm pair lurk
Rangers and Celtic are two of six teams credited with an interest in Parker.
Newcastle United, Sunderland and Brentford are also said to be keen, as are FC Copenhagen.
Fotbollskanalen report that Orgryte are holding out for a fee of around £1.7million for Parker.
When asked about that interest in Parker, the club's sporting director, Pontus Farnerud, told the Swedish outlet: "Yes, there is interest in Michael.
"He has a profile and possesses qualities that make him attract interest, but at the moment all focus for both Michael and Ois is our next match."
Farnerud gave a "no comment" when asked if any of those teams have yet lodged a bid.
Why Parker investment may be wise for Rangers
Not a great amount is known about Parker, clearly, but the fact a number of teams are looking at him says a lot.
The teenage defender has played 10 times for his new club, starting eight of those, and has so far kept just one clean sheet.
He averages 3.9 ball recoveries per game which, for context, is more than John Souttar (3.4) averaged last season.
What makes this deal enticing, though, is that Parker is available for such a cheap sum - relatively speaking.
Parker will not be signed to be a regular starter next season, but instead someone to challenge over the long term.
And if it means beating Celtic to a deal, then there is all the more reason to pursue this link.
