Why FC Koln's next move matters to Rangers in Mikey Moore race

Rangers will want Mikey Moore back at Ibrox, but FC Koln could threaten that.

The English winger impressed in Glasgow last season, winning the Gers' young player of the season award.

And now with Roberto De Zerbi at Tottenham Hotspur, the Italian is assessing the winger before making any final judgements on his future.

The Bears will have to be patient before they learn if there is any chance of striking a deal to bring Moore back to Ibrox.

But that patience should not allow them to cast their eyes away from Moore, as a potential return could hit a stumbling block.

And that comes out of Bundesliga side FC Koln.

How FC Koln could trump Rangers to Mikey Moore deal

Currently, Rangers will be sleeping well knowing that FC Koln are unable to strike a deal for Moore.

According to Sky Sports, the Bundesliga outfit are unable to afford the finances that would be needed to secure a move.

The situation has been described an "impossible" transfer for the German outfit.

Nonetheless, there is every chance that scenario could shift as Koln winger Said El Mala remains subject to interest from multiple top sides.

And the report shares that El Mala's exit would open the door to Koln to move for Moore.

So, for Rangers, they will certainly be keeping an eye on the Cologne-based club's transfer activity.

If they do not, they could be caught sleepwalking in their attempts to bring Moore back to Ibrox.

Rangers friendly showed need for Moore return

As Rangers took on Saint-Etienne on Wednesday evening, there was a clear need for wide attackers in Derek McInnes' squad despite the 2-1 win.

There was a lack of threat in those areas and while Findlay Curtis did have his lively moments, the Gers manager cannot solely rely on just one player.

But Moore is a talented player and will have plenty more suitors other than FC Koln.

Rangers, though, with their history with the Englishman, may hold a big advantage in that regard.
