What's now happening in Rangers' Vaclav Cerny pursuit as 'hectic' claim made

Rangers are now ready to ramp up their attempts to sign Vaclav Cerny.

The 28-year-old has been strongly linked with a return to Ibrox throughout the summer.

Currently plying his trade with Turkish giants Besiktas, the Czechia international has been in superb form as of late.

He netted seven goals and provided eight assists in 34 games for Besiktas last season, and already has three goal contributions in 2026-27.

After Couhaib Driouech's move to Rangers fell through, Derek McInnes has been determined to add some more wingers to his squad.

Kim Min-su has provided him with one, but the under-pressure Gers boss wants another.

What are Rangers about to do with Vaclav Cerny in the coming hours?

Cerny's 2024-25 season on loan with Rangers was one of the most impressive by a Gers winger in some time.

He scored 18 goals and registered nine assists in 52 total appearances, showing himself to be a quality player at Scottish Premiership level.

Ever since then, many Gers fans have been dreaming of the day he'd return to Govan, and that day may be coming.

Turkish reporter Ertan Suzgun - who has 460,000 X followers - claims via his X account on Saturday that Rangers are set to make a formal bid for Cerny.

It's claimed that Gers do now want to seal his signature, and are now in a "hectic" few hours to try and convince Cerny and Besiktas on the move.

So, how likely is it that Besiktas will agree to let Cerny come back to Glasgow before the 3 September deadline?

Why Besiktas' transfer activity could offer Cerny exit clue

Given his aforementioned form in Turkey, many will surely feel that Besiktas would be crazy to let Cerny leave.

However, this week they've added two new versatile forwards in Ernest Poku and Fabio Miretti to their squad.

Earlier in the window, they've also signed fellow forwards Orkun Kokcu, Kassoum Ouattara, Ilhan Fakili and Leandro Trossard.

In short, Besiktas' wide ranks and their options in attacking midfield, all departments where Cerny can/does play, are now stacked.

With big fees spent on Trossard and Kokcu in particular, they're yet to really raise any significant funds through player sales this summer.

As a result, they could see Cerny as an ideal candidate to sell whilst his stock has never been higher.

The bigger issue may be convincing Cerny on the move, as Rangers have also been adding a host of forwards and thus playing time rivals to their squad this summer.
