What would Robbie Ure's career have been like if he stayed at Rangers?

Robbie Ure is a Rangers story of what might have been.

Joining Rangers as a boy, the Glaswegian-born striker always dreamed of becoming an Ibrox success at his boyhood club.

Ure would progress through numerous age categories at Auchenhowie, and even earned Scotland youth recognition at international level.

A first-team breakthrough seemed inevitable for the striker, but alas, that never really came.

Ure would leave Govan in the summer of 2023 to join Anderlecht, having only ever made three competitive appearances for Gers' senior side.

Now having earned a big move to Sevilla this summer after shining in Sweden, the 22-year-old has been reflecting on his time with Rangers.

Why did Robbie Ure feel like he needed to leave Rangers?

Sometimes, players need to kill a dream in order to make another one happen in their careers.

Ure felt this was necessary upon making his decision to leave Rangers three summers ago, and it's paid off for him in a big way.

It didn't immediately appear it would, having made just one competitive first-team appearance for Anderlecht before signing for Sirius in March last year.

However, he would go on to score 31 goals in 50 games for the Swedish side, earning him an initial £5.5million (per BBC Sport) move to Sevilla this summer.

Speaking in a BBC Sport Scotland interview, Ure has now confessed that he didn't feel as though he was good enough for Rangers.

"Yeah it was difficult (leaving Rangers). All I'd ever known was Rangers. Going in every single day since I was probably eight years old," he said.

"So that's all I'd ever known. But, it was something I felt like I had to do.

"I felt like I wasn't good enough to play for Rangers at the time, which is normal for many 18-year-olds.

"So it was nothing that affected my confidence, I just feel like I needed a step before the final step, or something like that. Of course, I would have loved to have stayed."

With Ure confessing he would've wanted to stay in an ideal world, let's explore what that might've looked like for him.

No Rangers fan needs reminding that it's not been since the 2020-21 season in which their team have been crowned champions of Scotland.

All three of Ure's Gers appearances came in the 2022-23 season, which was the campaign in which Antonio Colak led the line.

He scored 14 times in the league that term before joining Parma, and his replacement came in the shape of Cyriel Dessers.

Over the next two seasons, Dessers would score 16 and 18 league goals, but he always seemed to lack that a true goalscoring compliment.

Danilo only netted four times in 2023-24 and five in 2024-25, whilst Hamza Igamane only stayed for the 2024-25 term before leaving for Lille.

So, had Ure held more faith in his ability at the time, looking at what he's achieved since leaving Ibrox, he would've been a superb player to have alongside Dessers.

Both big and powerful strikers, Ure could've made a particular difference in the 2023-24 title race, in which Gers finished seven points behind winners Celtic.

He didn't realise it, but Ure's big Rangers chance was surely just around the corner, with him and Dessers destined to have formed a deadly strike pairing.
