What Rangers deal for Badredine Bouanani means for Kevin Kelsy

Rangers' move for Kevin Kelsy is dragging ever nearer to the 5pm cut-off point.

The Gers are said to have reached an agreement with Portland Timbers earlier this week over a deal worth close to £10million.

That would place Kelsy second on Rangers' list of all-time record signings in a summer of heavy spending.

Kelsy was granted permission to fly to Glasgow in order to finalise the last steps of the deal.

Rangers were said to be close to announcing Kelsy, before news then emerged of a possible deal for Badredine Bouanani.

So what exactly does that move for Bouanani mean for Kelsy?

Derek McInnes said this week Rangers were working on only one deal - the one for Kelsy.

However, he did imply a second deal could be possible when speaking after the win over Falkirk on Wednesday.

We now know the identity of that second potential arrival.

Bouanani is said to be undergoing a medical in the hope a deal can go through prior to the deadline.

He has been likened to Eden Hazard in the past, so a lot can be expected if this one goes through.

And according to Gordon Duncan on Sky Sports News on Thursday morning, that deal is in addition to fellow attacker Kelsy joining, rather than instead of.

It means Rangers will hopefully have a 13th and 14th new signing of the summer before long.

Rangers set to match 2025 transfer tally

Should both deals go through - and as we have seen already this summer, that is not always certain - Rangers will be on 14 signings for the window.

That will match the tally from 12 months ago, though only four of those players still remain at Ibrox.

It has been a rather remarkable turnaround for the Light Blues, who seem to be going through a constant rebuild process.

McInnes will now be left to piece together a side that will hopefully compete for the title, rather than wilting like the majority of last season.
