What Lewis Ferguson has said about Rangers transfer as he lifts lid on summer interest
Bologna captain Lewis Ferguson has been a long-term target for Rangers.
The Gers have certainly had a busy transfer window to this point.
Derek McInnes has already welcomed 10 fresh faces to Ibrox and doesn't look like stopping.
Midfield has been an area the Scot has certainly looked to address as Vanja Dragojevic, Cameron Devlin and Dan Neil have already come in.
They all provide different qualities as a trio, but that hasn't stopped links to Ferguson emerging.
The 26-year-old has now revealed his stance on an Ibrox switch after providing an insight to his summer.
Lewis Ferguson sets sight on Rangers transfer
The Scotland international has certainly gone on to make a name for himself in Serie A.
His move to Italy came as a surprise to many after four years as a regular with Aberdeen.
That has never seen the idea of a move to Govan quiet down as fans dream of bringing him in.
Those dreams are only increased after several top years with Bologna.
It doesn't appear that his ambition to once feature at Ibrox has been halted as he told Corriere dello Sport in Monday's print edition.
When asked about any interest this summer, he replied: "No, no offers [to leave Bologna]. I had the World Cup, then the holidays, and then I came back here."
Ferguson went on to reveal his dream to feature in G51, "They’re the club in my heart and I’ve always said that I intend to play for Rangers. One day, although I still don’t know when, it will definitely happen if I get the opportunity."
That will be music to everyone's ears at Ibrox, but it doesn't feel as if a deal will happen any time soon.
When could Ferguson sign for Rangers?
Although his comments don't point towards an imminent move, it seems as if one could be ready for the future.
The question among Light Blues fans will be when.
Ferguson's current contract with Bologna runs until the summer of 2028 after signing a new four-year deal in 2024.
That could leave Rangers open to making a cut-price transfer next summer, should he not agree fresh terms in Italy.
If that doesn't work out, there is even the potential of a free transfer switch in 2028 when his current deal expires.
There will be plenty of opportunities for Ibrox to welcome Ferguson and it is clear that he is up for it too.
