What latest Roberto De Zerbi transfer comments on Mikey Moore mean for Rangers

It is absolutely no secret that Rangers would love to bring Mikey Moore back to Ibrox from Tottenham Hotspur.

The 18-year-old winger scored seven goals and three assists in the Scottish Premiership during a season-long loan last term.

Moore became a fan favourite with the Ibrox faithful, and there has been a clamour for his return to Govan for the upcoming campaign.

Thus far, the Gers have had to play a waiting game because Spurs have been taking a look at Moore and other youngsters in pre-season.

Indeed, Moore was part of the team that started for Spurs in a 2-0 win over Auckland FC during the Lilywhites' pre-season stop in New Zealand.

Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi was asked about Moore's future after that game, and his comments offer some hope for Rangers fans.

Ibrox News has previously covered covered a potential return route for Mikey Moore to Rangers from Tottenham.

Spurs had a large contingent at the World Cup and are looking to reinforce their forward line for De Zerbi after an awful Premier League campaign last term.

Both of those scenarios have left Moore with a potential opportunity to stake his own claim for a place in Spurs' squad next season.

But De Zerbi was asked about Moore's future after the Auckland game, and hinted that another move could be on the cards.

In quotes reported by Football London, De Zerbi said: "We have to see.

"We have to analyse the last part of the transfer market, because we try to bring wingers, and then we speak with him, with his agent, with the club, to find the best solution for everyone."

Rangers will be encouraged but patience is key

De Zerbi's words will certainly offer Rangers some encouragement as they look to secure a return for Moore.

But, it is clear that patience will be a virtue for Rangers, because Spurs clearly need some dominos to fall into place.

As De Zerbi said, he is looking to sign more wide players in the remainder of the transfer window.

If he is successful in that venture, then there is every chance another loan for Moore will be sanctioned.

Of course, that might mean other teams enter the fray, which might make life difficult for Rangers.

But, it is clear they might still have a chance. It just won't be one that gets sorted in the immediate future you wouldn't think.
