What Jim Gillespie is now doing after multi-million Fares Ghedjemis bid at Rangers

Rangers have failed with two bids in their pursuit of Frosinone's Fares Ghedjemis so far.

It's no secret that the Bears desperately want the Algerian star, but the same can be said for Celtic.

Rangers have already outbid their Old Firm rivals, with £8million on the table for Ghedjemis.

That was swiftly rejected, but Derek McInnes is far from done there.

As Rangers prepare to start their Europa League qualification journey against Jagiellonia in Poland, the Ibrox boardroom is busier than ever.

Transfer chief Dan Purdy is hard at work with impending signing, Daisuke Yokota, with a deal agreed but yet to be announced.

And that leaves Jim Gillespie to figure out a deal for Ghedjemis.

Who has bid more for Fares Ghedjemis so far?

It's no secret that Rangers have outbid Celtic.

Martin O'Neill's side have bid £6m, so the Light Blues are far ahead in negotiations, and much closer to his valuation.

The Daily Record has reported in its print edition that Frosinone actually value Ghedjemis at £13m.

The newspaper states on 5 August that the Bears recognise that value won't likely drop, given his World Cup call-up with Algeria.

Now, it's said that Gillespie is considering his options around another bid as Rangers look to get their man.

Yokota won't affect that pursuit either, with it very possible that both could be through the door at Ibrox in the coming weeks.

How could new-look Rangers side line up?

It's hard to predict right now, with McInnes still not even knowing his best line-up himself.

Ghedjemis will be expecting to start immediately, and if he costs Rangers £13m, so will those in the Ibrox boardroom.

That leaves Yokota possibly in a fight of his own to start.

Thelo Aasgaard has been the standout performer of the McInnes era so far, but playing him centrally may not work.

Cammy Devlin and Mohammed Diomande were played around too easily at Dundee United, so swapping in another attacking-minded player doesn't make too much sense.

Tochi Chukwuani, Dan Neil or Vanja Dragojevic are more likely to step in.

So, it leaves Yokota, Ghedjemis, Aasgaard and Findlay Curtis fighting for two spots, if Djedi Gassama leaves as expected.

Gillespie will need to factor that into his thinking too, but it's clear that McInnes is crying out for someone like Ghedjemis right now.
