What Jens Hjerto-Dahl has already said about Rangers speculation as multi-million bid now submitted
Rangers-linked Jens Hjerto-Dahl may be in for a repeat of his "stressful" January 2026 transfer window.
The 20-year-old is one of the hottest young talents in Scandinavian football at the moment after a breakthrough couple of years in Norway.
He's scored 12 goals in 96 appearances for Tromso so far, and was perhaps unlucky to miss out of Norway's World Cup squad this summer.
Dahl did sign a new contract with Tromso in February of this year, taking his current deal with the Norwegian outfit through until December 2029.
An attacking-minded central midfielder, Dahl's exploits in Norway has seen him catch the attention of a host of top clubs across European football in recent months.
This transfer interest came to a head in January of this year, and by his own admission, it wasn't a few weeks that he particularly enjoyed having to experience.
Rangers may struggle to convince Jens Hjerto-Dahl on Ibrox move
Dahl was consistently linked with a switch to Rangers throughout last season's winter window, but no such move materialised.
Danny Rohl moved to bring in Tochi Chukwuani instead, and now new boss Derek McInnes has already bolstered his midfield options with the signing of Dan Neil.
But, McInnes appears set on making further improvements to his engine room this summer, and Ibrox interest in Dahl doesn't seem to have faded.
That's because a report from ITromso has now claimed that the Bears have lodged £5.3million bid for the youngster, but this is understood to have been turned down by Tromso.
Indeed, speaking in an interview with TV2 via The Scottish Sun from March this year, Dahl has made it clear that he's not itching to leave Norwegian football.
“I had to turn off all my notifications. It was so loud that it blew up my phone," he said.
“It was a stressful period. You’re walking around thinking about [your future] all the time.
“A completely new situation for me. There was a lot of stuff going on. Not a fuss, but a bit of noise, in a way."
Then came the admission that will worry Rangers transfer chiefs and cast doubt over his interest in a move to Glasgow, as he spoke of his decision to reject Turkish giants Besiktas.
“I chose to say no to the transfer," Dahl continued. "Turkey has three or four teams that are very big and good, but Norwegian football is starting to reach a very high level.
"If you look at the series as a whole, I don’t think the Turkish league is that much better.
“I had a nice dialogue with Tromso and my agent and never felt any pressure.”
Dahl's form may soon put him beyond Rangers' reach
Dahl is an ascending young talent, and one that looks capable of doing pretty much whatever he wants in his career should he reach his full potential.
He's already bordering on a century of competitive appearances for Tromso, is on a clear path to the Norwegian national team at senior level, and has transfer chiefs across Europe besotted.
In just 12 games so far in the 2026 Eliteserien (Norway's top flight), he's already scored five goals and provided two assists.
As per FotMob, no Eliteserien central midfielder has took more shots (30) than Dahl has so far this season, and he's also averaging 0.43 goals per 90.
Dahl has already completed 16 dribbles, taken 653 touches with 47 in the opposition box and has made 99 defensive contributions respectively, showcasing just how impactful he is at both ends of the pitch.
So, if Rangers are going to sign Dahl at any point, it probably needs to be this summer and ASAP, otherwise his valuation will surely soon eclipse what Gers could afford to pay for him.
