Vaclav Cerny is being heavily linked with a return to Rangers.

The Czechia forward spent the 2024-25 campaign on loan at the Gers, impressing many, but the buy option in his loan deal from Wolfsburg wasn't triggered.

Last summer, the 28-year-old joined Besiktas on a permanent transfer, but after just one year in Turkiye, he could be on his way back to Glasgow.

The Ibrox hierarchy have made an offer for Cerny, but their initial £5.1million bid was rejected.

Another approach from the Light Blues is expected to try and sign the Czechia ace, but it remains to be seen how the Super Lig side respond.

It has been claimed that the winger is open to returning to Govan, although he has publicly expressed his commitment to Besiktas.

Why Vaclav Cerny retired from international football amid Rangers interest

Cerny revealed in a recent interview that he had decided to retire from international football.

The Czechia star expressed his disappointment at not being appreciated for the work he has done for his national side.

In the same interview, the forward revealed that he now wants to fully focus on succeeding at Besiktas.

It would suggest that Cerny isn't looking to leave the Istanbul club and might end up staying despite the Glaswegian outfit's efforts to sign him.

Speaking to TRTSpor, as relayed by the Rangers Review, the winger said, "I made the decision to leave the national team. This is the first time I’m publicly announcing this decision. It was a difficult and painful process for me. I’ve played in more than 30 matches, I’ve shown my quality, but the appreciation toward me hasn’t been there from the start."

"The easiest choice for me was to say, ‘Okay, now’s the right time, and I’ll fully focus on Besiktas because there are very important things I need to achieve here."

Derek McInnes may force Dan Purdy hands at Ibrox

Derek McInnes wants Rangers to sign a new winger and has expressed his demands to Dan Purdy.

The Gers' technical director now has a clear priority to fulfil the Scottish manager's wish in G51 before the end of the window.

There appears to be only one player the Glaswegian outfit should turn their attention to in order to add more quality out wide, and that's Mikey Moore.

The Tottenham Hotspur star carried the Light Blues' attack on several occasions last season and has been linked with a return to Ibrox.

McInnes may have just forced the recruitment department to do everything in their power to get another deal over the line with Spurs for the English youngster.
