Todd Cantwell has sent Connor Goldson a message after his Rangers exit and transfer to Aris Limassol was confirmed.

The Light Blues confirmed in a statement on Tuesday (30 July) that the 31-year-old had ended his six-year stay in Glasgow to complete a move to Aris Limassol for a fee reportedly in the region of £1.4million [Derek Clark, 30 July].

Cantwell is also understood to be heading towards the Ibrox exit having submitted a transfer request, but the 26-year-old was quick to wish his former teammate well ahead of the next chapter in his career.

Posting on his Instagram story on Tuesday (30 July) he said: "You're a leader and certainly took me under your wing, thankful we had time together brother!"

Will Todd Cantwell exit Rangers after Connor Goldson transfer?

While the majority of Rangers supporters will agree that Goldson's best days on the pitch are behind him, Cantwell's farewell message to the defender shows just what sort of impact he still had off the field.

Alongside James Tavernier, Goldson was one of the leaders in the changing room and would take young players or new arrivals under his wing to help them adapt to life at Ibrox and the pressure cooker that is football in Glasgow.

Some will argue he needed to do more to change the culture in the blue half of Glasgow to help the Gers get their hands on more silverware, but there is only so much one player can do on his own in the changing room.

With Goldson's exit confirmed and speculation continuing to surround Tavernier, it is now time for a new leadership group to emerge under Philippe Clement to try and help the Light Blues knock Celtic off of their perch.

Whether that will see Jack Butland take the captain's armband remains to be seen, but the Englishman will need the help of his teammates if Rangers want to complete this summer overhaul.
