Steven Gerrard sends message as Rangers look after Ryan Jack ahead of new transfer

Steven Gerrard still thinks highly of former Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack.

The Scot left Ibrox at the end of his contract in 2024, joining Turkish side Esenler Erokspor on a free transfer.

He spent seven years with the Bears, winning the Scottish Premiership, the Premier Sports Cup and helping them to the Europa League final.

Jack worked under the likes of Gerrard, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Michael Beale and Philippe Clement while in Govan before moving on.

He is now a free agent after leaving Erokspor, and is on the search for a new club.

Rangers have welcomed Jack back to Auchenhowie to stay fit ahead of a new move, as Gerrard makes his feelings clear on the midfielder.

Jack had been training alone after leaving Turkey, but is still set on continuing his playing career.

The 34-year-old made 55 appearances in total for Erokspor, as he could have his sights set on a Scotland return.

Jack is now working with the physio and performance coaches at Auchenhowie, and is also permitted to use the gym facilities to stay in shape.

Derek McInnes is already stacked in midfield, so a return to Ibrox would make no sense for either party.

Rangers On Tour relayed the information on Instagram this Friday, as the post caught the attention of Gerrard.

The former Rangers boss wrote: "Put him in the middle. Proper player."

Jack played a part in Rangers' title-winning campaign in the 2020-21 season, but his time was blighted by injuries, as he only managed 19 league appearances.

That said, the Ibrox faithful will remember the veteran for the moments that he provided in Govan over the years.

Jack has recently provided an update on where he is with finding a new club.

Gerrard was a big fan of Jack, who often played next to the likes of Glen Kamara, John Lundstram and Steven Davis in midfield.

Dundee FC were linked with a move for Jack last summer, but the midfielder stayed in Turkey for another year.

Speaking on Go Radio recently, the midfielder revealed how he's training at Auchenhowie ahead of possibly joining a new team.

Jack said, as picked up by The Herald: "I am just into the Rangers training ground, working away with the physio and performance staff and also doing some gym work, so yeah, feeling good.

"I still want to play; I’m still looking. There’s been nothing at the minute."

As Gerrard mentioned, Jack is a solid midfielder and could still be a good option for a Scottish side.
