Rangers: What Derek McInnes will offer behind the scenes as summer overhaul plans become clear
Rangers have appointed Derek McInnes as their new manager, and with that come some important changes both on and off the field.
The Gers announced on Wednesday the departure of Danny Rohl, who has re-joined the RB Group, this time as head coach of Salzburg.
Andrew Cavenagh and Co. were quick to identify McInnes as Rohl's replacement, appointing the ex-Hearts boss on a three-year contract.
The Bears had already stolen the Jambos' skipper in Lawrence Shankland away from them, and they may have delivered another title blow for them by prying McInnes away from Tynecastle.
It is reported that Gers had to pay a "significant" six-figure fee for the Scot to return to Ibrox, though the 49ers won't mind, with around £2million headed their way in compensation for Rohl.
Now, Rangers fans will be interested to see what the next steps are, considering plans were in place to sign new talent for Rohl.
Rangers plans remain amid new Derek McInnes involvement
McInnes will be keen to get to work with the official fixtures for next season, now released.
The former Gers star was always open to returning to Ibrox once he heard of interest, as Cavenagh and Co. knew who their man was once Rohl showed signs that he wanted to leave.
According to the Rangers Review, regardless of McInnes' appointment, the Light Blues remain focused on rebuilding the club's DNA in the summer window.
McInnes' position as manager reportedly means that he will offer Rangers a degree of continuity in the long-term planning and restructuring of the club.
He will provide a figurehead, meaning decisions and ideas will often be passed by him before anything is confirmed, as the new Rangers boss will also offer a domestic guarantee of performance.
Plans that were already in place for the summer will not be ripped up, with a similar approach to the winter window expected to ensure, despite the managerial change.
What does this mean for potential Hearts raid?
McInnes built something special at Tynecastle with Hearts last season - it's hard to argue against that
Given the Jambos came so close to winning the Scottish Premiership, McInnes will no doubt believe several of his former players could do a job at Ibrox.
However, he already has the main piece to the puzzle in Shankland, who will lead Rangers' line next season, and may even be offered the armband.
Given Rangers will continue to pursue outlined targets, it's unlikely that McInnes will come in and push to sign some of his old Hearts players straight away.
Perhaps if it gets to January and there's something specific that he feels is missing, then turning to one of his former Hearts players that he knows so well might be the move.
