Rangers have been tipped to make a deadline-busting proposal to sign Chelsea star Aaron Anselmino, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper's online edition reported on 2 February reported that the officials from the Premier League club believe that the 19-year-old needs to play senior football to toughen him up.

The Gers could offer the Argentinian defender a chance to play in the Europa League round of 16 after they secured automatic progression with a win over Union Saint-Gilloise on Thursday night (30 January).

The report claims that the Light Blues face competition from Sheffield Wednesday and Marseille for the Stamford Bridge star but the Glasweigans could hold an advantage due to interest from Enzo Maresca's side in Jefte.

Rangers move for Anselmino is a risk

Philippe Clement is in need of defensive reinforcements with injuries to Neraysho Kasanwirjo and Dujon Sterling depleting his options.

James Tavernier was forced to play as a makeshift centre-back and Leon King was forced off with a head injury in the win over the Belgian outfit on Thursday.

The Govan club have made one signing so far in the winter transfer window with Rafael Fernandes joining on loan from Lille, with an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

However, they need more cover if they are to have any chance of reducing the ten-point gap to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and going on a long run in Europe.

That may be Clement's best hope of salvaging what has been a dismal campaign so far for the Ibrox side.

Anselmino is one of the most promising young defenders in world football but if Chelsea need him to toughen up, will he have the tenacity and the physicality needed to play for the Gers?
