Rangers talks expected to be underway for midfielder Derek McInnes has raved about
Rangers may already be in talks over Derek McInnes' first signing as manager, according to Keith Jackson.
McInnes has not yet been officially appointed as Rangers head coach, but an announcement is thought to be imminent.
The Hearts boss will succeed Danny Rohl, whose own move from Rangers to RB Salzburg has also yet to be made official.
While there are still minor details to be finalised for both, Rangers cannot afford to sit still in terms of transfer business.
Lawrence Shankland has already arrived, and it may just be that another player makes the switch from Hearts.
And with the transfer window officially open as of Monday, Rangers are now free to finalise any deals.
'I'd be astonished if Rangers talks aren't underway for Cammy Devlin'
McInnes does not have long to go until Rangers are back in pre-season training.
Any manager, whether at a new club or not, will tell you the importance of getting a settled squad as soon as possible.
Getting Shankland in on a free transfer was an impressive coup, and another impressive piece of business could soon follow.
Rangers have inevitably been linked with Cammy Devlin, who caught the eye for Hearts last season but is now set to become a free agent.
Speaking on the Daily Record's Hotline Live show, respected journalist Jackson said he would be shocked if talks are not already ongoing.
"I'd be astonished if he’s not on his radar," Jackson said. "In fact, I'd be astonished if there hasn't been been some sort of talks between the pair already."
Fellow journalist Scott McDermott added: "I remember asking McInnes about him.
"[McInnes] raved about him; he just loved him in terms of the type of character he is and the shift he puts in."
Rangers have another advantage to sign Devlin
McInnes' arrival at Ibrox is of course a massive boost when it comes to landing Devlin.
The pair know each other well from their time at Tynecastle, while the fact he is available for free ticks another box for Hearts.
And in more good news for those who went Devlin in Glasgow, the midfielder previously revealed his father supporters Rangers.
It seems like a transfer match made in heaven and will further strengthen the Gers ahead of the new season.
