Rangers switch for Angus Gunn mooted as fresh Jack Butland doubts raised
Keith Jackson has put Rangers forward as a potential destination for Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Angus Gunn this summer.
The Scotland international is preparing for the World Cup with the number one shirt on his back.
That isn't to say he's going to be the go-to man for Steve Clarke in between the sticks at the showpiece tournament.
Craig Gordon has been utilised throughout the qualification process and could be set to start while being the oldest player travelling to North America.
The Hearts man could rub further salt in the wounds of Gunn after making just one appearance for Nottingham Forest since his summer move.
That could open the door to a Rangers switch this summer as Jackson believes he could serve as a Jack Butland replacement.
Angus Gunn could replace Jack Butland at Rangers
There have been question marks surrounding the former England international for a while at Ibrox.
The Light Blues' number one has had his fair share of shockers recently and his future is now up in the air.
New keeper targets have been linked to Govan with Sunderland's Anthony Patterson emerging as an option already.
Gunn could soon enter the thinking for Danny Rohl and Co. as he prepares for the World Cup.
He could be on his way out of Nottingham Forest this summer and Jackson has suggested that a move to G51 could make sense if Butland is moved on.
Speaking on the Daily Record Hotline Live, he said: "When you actually think about it, if you're Angus Gunn and you've got that target of making yourself Scotland number one, you think about Rangers just now.
"There's doubts over Jack Butland's future and whether or not he's the best solution. Angus Gunn could do a lot worse than thinking about if there was a deal to be done if Butland moves on."
How would Gunn improve Rangers?
There isn't much of a sample size for the 30-year-old right now as he has hardly played for a year.
His move to Nottingham Forest just hasn't worked out and he needs to move in search of regular starting minutes.
That hasn't stopped him from putting in some positive performances on the international stage recently.
He kept a clean sheet against Bolivia last time out and made three saves in the process.
Gunn also maintained an 87 per cent pass accuracy and completed two throws.
Should Butland move on this summer, the Scot could be a useful option as he looks to prove a point after such a frustrating year.
There may be some reservations around his addition, but giving him a chance to try and improve Rangers may prove to be worthwhile.
