Rangers suffer new blow as coach waves farewell after 'incredible' Auchenhowie spell
Rangers' academy coaching team has been weakened on Wednesday.
The Gers' youth system at Auchenhowie is renowned as one of the best in Scottish football.
So many top young players have developed through it and either gone on to become first-team stars at Ibrox, or elsewhere.
Findlay Curtis is the current shining example of this in Derek McInnes' side, with the 20-year-old looking poised for a very bright future in Govan.
One coach who will no doubt have played a part in Curtis' rise over recent years has now made the decision to seek pastures new, however.
What has Steven Mundell said as Rangers exit announced?
Top young players don't become top senior players without the work of excellent coaching at academy level.
Steven Mundell joined Rangers as a youth and professional development phase coach in September 2021, as per his LinkedIn profile.
But after five years in this role, he now feels it's time to seek a fresh opportunity elsewhere.
Announcing via his X account on Wednesday lunchtime, Mundell penned an emotional goodbye to Rangers.
"After an incredible five years, I’m moving on from Rangers," Mundell wrote.
"A huge thank you to all the Rangers academy staff and players I’ve had the pleasure of working with.
"Excited for the new challenge ahead", ending his announcement with an emoji of the globe.
This perhaps suggests that Mundell is taking up a new position outside of Scottish football.
But, this isn't the first time Mundell has said his goodbyes to Rangers.
When did Mundell first start his Rangers coaching journey?
As detailed via his LinkedIn account, Mundell's connection with Rangers actually began quite some time ago.
His profile shows that he started working as a community coach for the Gers in October 2005, which he performed until September 2015.
Mundell also took on the role of foundation and youth development phase coach in February 2011, which he held until July 2017.
He then joined Rotherham United as a lead youth development phase coach in July 2017, staying there for two years before moving to China.
There he became the head of coaching for the Chongqing No.7 high school, spending two years in China before returning to Rangers.
Clearly then, Mundell isn't afraid to travel and move across the planet in order to seek out coaching opportunities, further suggesting he may be doing the same again.
