Rangers will hope they haven't made a costly mistake letting Alfie Halliwell leave Ibrox.

The 19-year-old goalkeeper had been emerging as an exciting talent at Auchenhowie over the last few years.

He turned out for Rangers at various youth levels, whilst he's also a current Scotland Under-19s international.

Halliwell wasn't able to make a competitive appearance for Gers, but he was sniffing around the B team recently.

Making the first-team grade in Govan is tough for any young player, with there being no room for niceness in pursuit of Scottish Premiership titles.

The teenager has now sought out a fresh start south of the border, as he looks to make a name for himself in English football.

Who has Alfie Halliwell signed for after leaving Rangers?

Earlier this summer, Halliwell departed Rangers' academy system and has been searching for a new club ever since.

The signing of Ivor Pandur further pushed him away from any first-team breakthrough, and the Croatian doesn't look for budging any time soon.

Confirmed via their official club website on Tuesday, Derby County have announced they've signed Halliwell.

He's gone straight into Derby's Under-21 team, and the Rams' head of goalkeeping Paul Clements has dropped some insight on the move.

“Alfie is someone who we have been monitoring for a while," Clements confessed.

Halliwell hasn't wasted any time settling in with the English Championship club either, as he's already turned out for his new team.

How many games has Halliwell already played for Derby?

Halliwell hasn't only just joined Derby, as he's actually been with the Rams since September.

The keeper was on the bench for the Rams' National League Cup tie against Gateshead on 8 September.

He would then make his debut for their Under-21s against Tottenham in Premier League 2 three days later.

Then came a considerable wait for his next appearance, with that not arriving until a Premier League Cup clash with Brentford last Saturday.

As detailed via Transfermarkt, Halliwell has conceded seven goals from his first two games for Derby's Under-21s.

Obviously not the start to life in English football he would've been hoping for, the ex-Auchenhowie talent clearly has plenty of room for growth.

Derby's first team haven't made a great start to their Championship season, winning once from their first nine games and sit in the relegation zone as such.

Perhaps, then, if Halliwell can put in a strong campaign in the Under-21s, he may put himself in a position to compete for a first-team role in the not-too-distant future.
