Rangers ready to submit final loan-to-buy bid for James Penrice as current deal blocker revealed

Rangers are still looking to bring James Penrice to Ibrox.

The fullback has long been linked with the Glasgow club throughout the window and efforts to sign him are now ramping up.

Currently, Derek McInnes only has one natural left-back in his squad and that is Tuur Rommens.

While other positions such as wide attackers are needed more, the importance of depth at left-back cannot be overstated.

However, while the Gers look to get a deal over the line, there is one part of the negotiations that are currently blocking a move.

And it has been shared what Rangers are expected to do next in the transfer pursuit.

What is blocking Rangers' move for James Penrice

It has been a busy summer for Rangers and it looks set to get busier.

Andrew Cavenagh has shared that three to five new signings could arrive, and it looks like Penrice could be one of those names.

According to Sport24, a Greek outlet, AEK and Rangers are currently in active negotiations over a deal for Penrice.

The move is said to be a loan deal, with AEK telling the Scotsman that he can leave this summer.

The report shares that Rangers have already submitted two proposals for the defender which include options to buy.

However, there is one hurdle to overcome, with a difference currently emerging over the loan fee.

Rangers are said to be looking to make "one more effort" in order to bridge the gap in valuations to land the transfer.

With it said that it remains to be seen whether that final offer is enough to reach an agreement as Penrice has an "undeniable desire" to make the move to Glasgow.

Rangers currently running Tuur Rommens risk

Without another left-back, Belgian Rommens has been forced to feature in all of Rangers' games for the entire 90 minutes so far.

Since the competitive season began, that has seen him rack up 270 minutes over three games.

With the return leg against Jagellonia Bialystok looming, Rommens is likely to start once again.

That would mean he is averaging a full game of football every 3.25 days.

Last season, Rommens become a key player under Danny Rohl, and under McInnes he can still have that impact.

But without much-needed rest and rotation, the 23-year-old will ultimately fall victim to fatigue and that would increase risk of injury.

So, while another left-back is not a priority, the move for Penrice does hold plenty of importance for the Gers.
