The Andrew Cavenagh transfer promise that left Rangers fans applauding at shareholder meeting

Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh has pledged that transfer business is far from done this summer.

Cavenagh is determined to make a success of his Rangers tenureship.

Keen to put his frustrating first season in charge at Ibrox behind him, he's appointed Derek McInnes to lead Gers into the future.

The 55-year-old has been backed in the transfer market too, with no fewer than nine new faces already through the door.

However, with no wins from his first three competitive games in charge and fresh off the back of a 2-1 defeat to Hibernian on Sunday, the pressure is already mounting on the ex-Hearts gaffer.

But McInnes is Cavenagh's man, and his words from Monday's shareholder meeting only further display how committed he is to backing his manager in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.

Nine new signings may have been made, but judging from the early season results on the pitch, more is needed if Rangers are to be in serious title contention this season.

McInnes, of course, will be expected to and confident of getting far more out of this current group of players, as it's hoped these first few weeks are mere teething pains on the road to a memorable campaign.

But speaking in Monday's shareholder meeting, via the Daily Record, Cavenagh accepts that there are things to iron out in this squad, and part of the plan to do that involves more recruits arriving in Govan.

"We have a bias to Scottish players and people with SPFL experience," he said. "We've added three players who used to be captains, we've added some older players.

"But you can see things are a bit clunky. The transfer market is not like a supermarket where you go pick a winger off the shelf. You have to wait for things to move.

"I'd say three to five players are still to come in and a number will go out", and it was this revelation that drew a round of applause from the Rangers fans in attendance.

So, let's presume Rangers sign five more players this summer, who might some of them be and what positions may Gers still look to target?

Rangers still have transfer work to do in defence

The leading target for Rangers at this present moment appears to be PSV Eindhoven winger Couhaib Driouech.

It's being widely reported that Gers are hopeful of striking a deal worth around £7million for the 24-year-old, but competition is rife for the Moroccan.

Meanwhile, with interest seemingly cooling in Fares Ghedjemis, a summer-long-touted reunion for Vaclav Cerny could gather further pace, as McInnes plots numerous new additions out wide.

Defence could be where the other three potential new signings are made, however, with the Daily Record now reporting on Monday that Aston Villa right-back Kosta Nedeljkovic is a player Rangers are interested in.

In addition to him, McInnes may also need cover for Tuur Rommens at left-back, with Clinton Nsiala not seeming to feature heavily in his plans.

Another central defender could also be on the agenda too, as Ben Godfrey has already been struck down through injury and John Souttar is a player widely reported as being someone who Rangers are keen to offload this summer.
