Rangers open talks to sign Hamza Igamane replacement, £4m+ to seal deal

Hamza Igamane continues to be linked with a Rangers exit in the final days of the transfer window.

Morocco international Igamane had reached a verbal agreement with Lille to finalise his Ibrox exit, but that move did not materialise.

Feyenoord were also keen on signing Igamane from Rangers, but failed to lodge a bid for the 22-year-old attacker.

Rangers in talks with Villarreal for Karl Etta Eyong

An Ibrox exit for Igamane cannot be ruled out, which is what has led to Gers make moves to sign another striker.

Cyriel Dessers and Danilo are the other options for Russell Martin in that position, but the former is currently out with an injury and the latter has also faced fitness issues in the past.

This has led the Glasgow club to pursue the services of Villarreal striker Karl Etta Eyong.

According to Africa Foot on 20 August, Gers have opened talks with the La Liga side over the potential transfer of the Cameroon international.

They even tabled an offer to sign him on loan, but Villarreal turned it down as they want a permanent sale.

The Spanish side want more than £4.3million to part ways with the 21-year-old striker.

Russell Martin must get the best out of Karl Etta Eyong

Martin can maximise Eyong’s potential at Rangers, despite the Cameroonian striker’s limited senior experience, by leveraging his youth academy expertise and tactical acumen.

With the 21-year-old's promising form at the start of the season, scoring in the opening La Liga game of the season, Martin can integrate him gradually, starting with substitute roles to build confidence.

Eyong's stats.

His possession-based, attacking style suits Eyong’s flair, allowing the 21-year-old to exploit spaces behind defences, similar to what Igamane does.

Mentoring from experienced forwards like Dessers, combined with tailored training to enhance physicality, can address his inexperience.

Martin’s high defensive line could also suit Eyong’s pace, but careful management of game time will be key to nurturing his development while aiming for Gers’ competitive edge in the 2025/26 season.
