Rangers have made a £5million bid for FC Porto ace Goncalo Borges this summer, according to O Jogo.

The newspaper reported in its print edition on 29 July [Page 4] that Ligue 1 side Strasbourg made a lower offer of £4.2million to try and acquire his services.

These were both described as "derisory" to the Portuguese giants, due to Borges' current value and age.

Rangers should turn their sights away from Goncalo Borges this summer

Whilst there's no denying that Rangers still need improvement across the board, it doesn't feel like Borges is the right man for them to do so.

The winger has only managed to create three goals throughout the entirety of his senior career and has failed to score a goal.

And, although he's still young at 23 years old, it feels as if the Gers could spend their money better elsewhere.

Indeed, the winger would be a stellar replacement for the outgoing Todd Cantwell but in reality, there are other areas of Rangers' squad that need bolstering first.

Hence why the likes of Lawrence Shankland and Sevilla playmaker Joan Jordan [Daily Record, 28 July] are two players that have been heavily pursued by Philippe Clement's team.

One thing is for sure, if the club chooses to continue chasing Borges this summer, they'll have to drastically increase their bid in order to pry him away from Porto.
