Jose Cifuentes deal on verge of termination as Rangers midfielder heads elsewhere

Rangers midfielder Jose Cifuentes is set to terminate his contract with the Cruziero, according to Globo.

The Brazilian outlet reported on 28 July that despite Cifuentes' deal being agreed until Christmas, he is going to end his stint in South America early and instead ply his trade for Aris Thessaloniki in Greece.

Cifuentes hasn't had the best of times in Brazil and is looking for a fresh start elsewhere.

The case of Cifuentes is quite a curious one. The 25-year-old joined Rangers last summer for a fee of £1.2million from LAFC after Michael Beale brought the Ecuador international to Glasgow.

The midfielder was used sparingly during his initial stint for the Gers and only managed a total of 20 appearances.

Whilst this might seem like a decent amount of showing for a player's first season in European football, his performances on the pitch were below par.

Once Philippe Clement came in, he lost his place in the squad and was sent to Cruziero in Brazil in order to strengthen his game.

Unfortunately for the former LAFC man, however, he was once again used sparingly and has lost his place in the team.

Although Cifuentes could stay in Brazil and fight for his place, it feels as if it's a lost cause and a move elsewhere makes sense.

And, as the club has just brought Connor Barron in to replace the recently exited John Lundstram, he wouldn't have a place in the Gers' squad just yet.
