Rangers hold out for Vaclav Cerny as picture becomes clearer at Besiktas
Rangers have maintained their interest in Vaclav Cerny this summer.
The 28-year-old spent last season with Besiktas and had a largely positive campaign.
His 15 goal involvements certainly made a difference at Vodafone Park in his debut campaign.
That hasn't stopped him from being linked with a move away from the Black Eagles this summer.
The Gers have been linked with a move to bring the Czechia international back after his loan in the 2024/25 season.
Cerny made an impression at Ibrox and could be on his way for a return, although the final decision will be down to Besiktas.
Besiktas set Vaclav Cerny transfer stance after Rangers interest
The forward was the starman in a difficult spell for the Light Blues under both Philippe Clement and Barry Ferguson.
He became a bit of a fan favourite in Govan, largely down to his goal output at Ibrox.
His 18 goals and nine assists were superb, but there was no route to a permanent deal last summer.
Things could be different this time around as Turkish journalist Mustafa Karatas reported Rangers interest on Thursday.
Taking to X, he said: "The current picture suggests he'll continue at Besiktas next season."
Feyenoord and Hoffenheim have also been linked to the attacker, as the Gers remain in the hunt for his signature.
Besiktas boss Vincenzo Italiano could block Cerny exit
There has been a hope from the Govan faithful that they could get a deal over the line to bring the Czech star back this summer.
He was involved in many starring moments in the Scottish Premiership, with his strike against St Johnstone in October 2024 up there with the best.
Cammy Bell described it as "phenomenal" on BBC Sportscene at the time and someone like that could be perfect as Derek McInnes comes in.
Those dreams appear to be falling away somewhat as Besiktas remain firm in their stance.
That was echoed earlier in June when Turkish outlet TRT Spor reported that Vincenzo Italiano has decided that Cerny is important to his plans.
The Italian head coach is looking to utilise the winger next season and wants to get more out of him next season.
That tied in with the latest reports could spell bad news for Rangers, although they appear to be sticking it out in the race to bring the forward back to Ibrox.
