Rangers headhunt new backroom figure who will work under Dan Purdy

Rangers are ready to make a new appointment to supplement their recruitment team.

Technical director Dan Purdy heads up all things recruitment at Ibrox, and they are looking to add to their current structure.

It is a busy period in terms of recruitment for Rangers, who have been active in the transfer market thus far.

Ivor Pandur, Ross McCrorie, Ben Godfrey, Dan Neil, Cammy Devlin, and Lawrence Shankland have all arrived to improve the spine of the team.

More signings are expected before the Scottish Premiership season opener at Dundee United on 31 July.

More imminently, Rangers are ready to make a significant appointment to their technical team and he knows Scottish football very well.

Ibrox News recently covered how Stig Inge Bjornebye was appointed as Rangers' performance director on a full-time basis.

He has been looking at ways to improve Rangers' recruitment structure, with a series of changes expected to how the club do business.

The Daily Record has reported how one of those changes is Rangers being set to appoint former Livingston manager David Hopkin to a "major position" in their recruitment department.

Hopkin has been headhunted from his role at Premier League club Crystal Palace, where he has been working as head of scouting in Scotland.

The report states that Hopkins, a former Scotland international, will have a remit in charge of emerging and academy talent.

Hopkin has had a lengthy career in the football industry.

The 55-year-old represented the likes of Chelsea, Palace, Leeds United, and Bradford City during his playing career, and represented Scotland on seven occasions.

He has had managerial spells with Livingston, Bradford, Greenock Morton, and Ayr United.

In his scouting role at Palace, he brought Northern Ireland international Justin Devenney to the club from Ayr and he has gone on to become an FA Cup and Conference League winner.

Hopkin is also known to Rangers' chief executive Jim Gillespie having signed Dylan Reid from St Mirren when Gillespie was working in Paisley.
