Rangers could spend the bulk of their remaining transfer budget on Tromso midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl.

The Bears have been heavily linked with the 20-year-old since January, and have once again stepped up their efforts for his signature this summer.

Derek McInnes' side have faced interest from clubs in Turkey, Austria and Wales, with Cardiff City currently ready to pay the most for the Norwegian.

Despite the Bluebirds' reported £8million push, it's suggested that the midfielder is keen on a move to Ibrox.

It's not known if Andrew Cavenagh is prepared to pay more for the player, or if McInnes even wants another midfielder after the arrival of Vanja Dragojevic.

Regardless, Rangers still appear to be in the race for Hjerto-Dahl, as Andy Halliday has asked questions around the player's possible move to Ibrox.

Andy Halliday reveals Jens Hjerto-Dahl reference amid £15m claim

Ibrox News understands that Hjerto-Dahl has agreed personal terms with Rangers, and that the player is convinced by McInnes' project.

Despite this, the Gers' last offer of £5.4m was turned down by Tromso, as there has yet to be a club-to-club agreement.

Speaking on Open Goal, Halliday revealed his thoughts on what the Bears may have left to spend this summer, as well as inside conversations with former Motherwell boss Jens Berthel Askou on Hjerto-Dahl.

Halliday said: "I can still see Rangers spending another £10m to £15m.

"I can say this: anytime Rangers last year were linked with a player from a Scandinavian league, Berthel Askou knew them like the back of his hand.

"Rangers were linked with Hjerto-Dahl in January, and I asked Berthel Askou about him, and he said he's top, top level."

Hjerto-Dahl has been in red-hot form for Tromso, making Rangers fans lose their minds with stunning long-range goals of late.

Whether the Bears push on in their attempts to bring the player to Govan remains to be seen, though all the evidence is there for them to know he is a top quality player.

Rangers midfield concern ends with Hjerto-Dahl; here's why

One thing Rangers fans have been worried about is that their current midfield options are too similar.

The likes of Dan Neil, Cammy Devlin, Dragojevic and Tochi Chukwuani are all natural ball winners, and don't have much ability on the ball.

Apart from Nicolas Raskin, who is likely to leave anyway, Rangers don't have midfielders who offer much creativity or goal threat.

That would not be an issue if McInnes did land Hjerto-Dahl, but whether he will or not remains to be seen.
