Rangers have been linked with Cammy Devlin amid Derek McInnes' love for the midfielder.

The Australian is set to return home after his nation were knocked out of the World Cup by Egypt on Friday, with his own future up in the air.

Devlin is officially a free agent after his deal with Hearts expired, as he could be a third man from the Jambos to head to Ibrox this summer.

The 28-year-old could join his former boss and team-mate Lawrence Shankland at Rangers, but he is also a wanted man elsewhere.

Several MLS sides are said to be interested in the box-to-box battler, who already has multiple offers on the table.

McInnes is keen on Devlin, but so is the new Hearts boss, Wouter Vrancken.

Rangers have been mooted with interest in Devlin ever since McInnes came to the Light Blues.

The new Gers boss was asked about signing players from the Jambos on his official Ibrox unveiling, and though he remained tight-lipped, club CEO Jim Gillespie did not.

Gillespie said: "I would never give any club any assurances that I'll never buy a player for them. Or a coach."

According to Edinburgh News, new Hearts boss Vrancken intends to speak to Devlin, who has attention from MLS clubs Chicago Fire and Seattle Sounders.

McInnes is said to be an "admirer", while Hearts want to keep him, which has been made clear in their head coach's latest comments.

Vrancken said: "I sent him a message just to see when it's possible for him that we can have a call somewhere. I'm waiting for the answer."

The Belgian did explain he may not have answered yet due to time differences, as the player is still believed to be in America after his nation's defeat at the Dallas Stadium.

There is a belief that Rangers have already held talks with Devlin, according to Daily Record journalist Keith Jackson.

Perhaps the Aussie is waiting to get home and process the World Cup before making his next big decision.

What Devlin's potential arrival would mean for Rangers struggler

Rangers have already tweaked their midfield options over the past 12 months, with Tochi Chukwuani most recently coming to Ibrox in January.

However, uncertainty remains about multiple midfielders who are contracted to the Light Blues.

Connor Barron struggled in the second half of last season due to a knee injury that kept him out for several months.

However, he like every other Gers player will get a second chance under McInnes.

But, the Scot will be at a clear disadvantage if the Rangers boss manages to land his former Tynecastle warrior.

Bologna are said to be interested in Barron, according to the Daily Record, as he could leave Ibrox this summer.
