Rangers at risk of Groundhog Day scenario amid Nico Raskin transfer latest

Rangers are running out of time to cash in on Nicolas Raskin this summer.

The 25-year-old has been strongly linked with a move away from Ibrox throughout the window.

But ahead of Thursday's 5pm deadline in Scotland, no such exit plan is in place for the Belgian midfielder.

The Saudi transfer window doesn't close until Sunday, 6 September, whilst the Turkish window shuts on Friday, 4 September.

It's these two options that remain the only real ones left on the table for Raskin if he's to seal a big-money exit from Govan this summer.

Why Rangers must learn from past transfer lessons with Nicolas Raskin

It's always a tough decision weighing up whether to let a star player leave or not.

Rangers without Raskin would be a considerably weaker outfit under Derek McInnes.

But on the flip side of that, with significant funds spent this summer on improving the squad, the books must be balanced.

Connor Barron sealed a last-minute loan move to Championship promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough.

As a result, McInnes' engine room depth has been weakened, and signings such as Dan Neil, Vanja Dragojevic and Cammy Devlin have all struggled to hit the ground running.

Therefore, Ibrox chiefs may now see their midfield situation as not being as strong as they would like, and thus Raskin might be a player they can't afford to lose right now.
