Nicolas Raskin and Thelo Aasgaard double exit mooted at Rangers in 'bonkers' reveal
Rangers pair Nicolas Raskin and Thelo Aasgaard are enjoying the summer of their lives at the World Cup.
Raskin has played an important part in Belgium's run to the quarter-finals, where Spain await on Friday night.
Likewise, Aasgaard has done his bit for Norway to help set up a last-eight clash with England the following evening.
Both players have been linked with an Ibrox exit while their stock is high at the tournament.
Rangers could make a profit - substantially so in the case of Raskin - should they cash in this window.
And doing just that may just make sense, even if it would see two key players exit for Derek McInnes.
Rangers sales for Nicolas Raskin and Thelo Aasgaard could have long-term benefits
Raskin has been one of Rangers' better performers over the past couple of seasons.
The problem, though, has been consistency. Rangers have not been seeing the same level of performances we've witnessed at the World Cup.
Or at least not in enough games. Where is this Raskin when Rangers are chasing a goal against a lesser side, for example?
As for Aasgaard, he ended last season with a respectable tally of eight goals for the Gers.
But that does not tell the whole picture as he scored two of those when the title was already out of Rangers' hands.
Writing for the Daily Record's print edition on Wednesday, journalist Scott McDermott said selling the pair could make sense.
"It might sound bonkers for a club to try to offload two players who are in the latter stages of a World Cup," he wrote.
"But for Rangers and McInnes to rebuild and get them challenging for titles again in Scotland, it’s not as mad an idea as it sounds."
McDermott also wrote: "It probably tells you everything that despite Raskin and Aasgaard's presence in the last eight, most Rangers fans would be happy to cash in on the pair this summer. Crazy, eh?"
As McDermott goes on to say, though, the sales of both players - particularly Raskin - could be imperative.
Raskin sale could unlock transfer every Rangers fan wants
If Raskin stays at Rangers this summer, great. He is a top player and will undoubtedly be someone McInnes wants to work with.
However, Rangers know they could land in excess of £15million for the midfielder this summer.
At the same time Raskin is being linked with the Ibrox exit, Lewis Ferguson is being touted as a possible arrival.
Ferguson joining Rangers could depend on Raskin being sold, though, as he will cost a club-record fee.
If it is a case of Raskin out and Ferguson in, plus some cash leftover from Aasgaard moving on, nobody can say that is not good business.
