Lyall Cameron transfer: Rangers wage claim made after Aberdeen update emerges

Aberdeen will attempt to hijack Rangers move for Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron, according to the Daily Mail.

The British tabloid reported via its website (24 January) that the Dons hope to convince Cameron that choosing Pittodrie over Ibrox would be wise for his long-term ambitions.

Rangers are in talks with Cameron's representatives ahead of a summer transfer [Scott Burns] and know they can offer higher wages than Aberdeen.

Philippe Clement has been urged to sign the midfielder "in a heartbeat" and fend off the emerging interest from their Scottish Premiership rivals.

Rangers to pip Aberdeen to Lyall Cameron

Given the well-documented financial struggles at Ibrox, the Gers faithful may not have expected to see the side in a position to outmuscle another club financially.

However, despite the growing gap between themselves and Celtic, there is still a considerable gap between the top two and the rest of Scotland.

Indeed, Aberdeen can offer Cameron more guarantees regarding playing time and has a proven track record of developing young talent that can be sold later on for a sizeable profit.

But still, Rangers are still Rangers and not many young Scottish talents can ignore the call when the blue side of Glasgow comes knocking.

Furthermore, Connor Barron completed a Bosman switch to Ibrox from Pittodrie last summer, which is a clear indication of where the best environment is to develop into a top talent.

The Gers must adopt a creative approach in the transfer market, and signing a midfielder who has contributed eight goals and seven assists this term - for free - is incredible business.

Dundee would receive compensation if personal terms were agreed upon for the Scotland Under-21s international, but the payment would still be pocket change for a player of his quality.
